Criminal Justice and Sociology
Mission Statement
The Sociology Program’s mission is to provide majors with an understanding of the scientific study of human groups in modern societies and the social and cultural forces that affect them. The sociological perspective is central to grasping the social and cultural forces that remake our lives on a daily basis.
The Criminal Justice Program seeks to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and critical thinking capabilities necessary for successful careers in the criminal justice field.
Department Goals
- Sociology and Criminal Justice students will be able to read and think critically about topics and issues within each of their respective disciplines.
- Sociology and Criminal Justice students will understand the basic skills of research methods and have command of statistics.
- Students will be able to complete an independent research project in their advanced research class in which they develop a research question, conduct a thorough literature review, collect data and write up and present their findings.
